US-2400 issue with Cubase...

Hi Guys,

I have a US-2400 that I just got to use with my FW-1804. I'm thinking it's going to make a sweet rig, fairly on the cheap. But, I am having one issue that I can't seem to figure out and the manual for the US-2400 is just about worthless.

Here's my problem: Rarther than operating as 24 independant faders, it is acting like 3 exact duplicates of 8-fader banks. In other words, Faders 1, 9, amd 17 all mimic each other and control the same track. Faders 2, 10, and 18 do the same and so on. I've been digging around trying to find a fix for this, but am having no luck. Tascam's FAQ page for the US-2400 does mention this exact same problem and how to fix it in Sonar, but no mention of Cubase (and yes, of course I did give the Sonar fix a try...no go).

Any guidance on this would be GREATLY apppreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

You're on the right path. I have the US-2400 and am using it with Sonar. Basically, your software is seeing only 1 of the midi channels, instead of 3 separate ones. I'm not sure how to fix this in Cubase, but keep going down that path.....good luck!

What version of Cubase are you using?

The US2400 is effectively 4 control surfaces in one and needs to be set up as such. However any versions of Cubase below 2.2 do not support multiple control surfaces. There is an update from V2 to V2.2 on the Steinberg site.

I am using (insert chuckle here) the Cubase LE that came with my Tascam FW-1804 interface. I bought the 1804 and the US-2400 as a package thinking that they, along with the included Cubase LE, would make a really nice home project rig. I (probably stupidly) assumed that the software Tascam provided would fully support my Tascam products. I've been wondering lately if that might be the problem. Although, LE does let you add multiple instances of "Mackie Control" in the Device manager and then assign each one to different emulated MIDI ports of the US-2400 (just like the manual says). I don't know. I've been thinking of springing for full-blown Cubase, but I've got my doubts that would just magically fix everything.

Another weird thing I have discovered with my US-2400 is that the Master section is tied to the last (3rd) bank of 8 faders, when the Tascam manual says that the Master section should be tied to the 1st bank of 8 faders. Maybe I just have a dodgy unit and need to see about exchanging it???

Did you try downloading the firmware upgrade and then starting the US2400 while holding down SEL and 5? The firmware upgrade makes that setting into 'Steinberg mode'

The full Cubase SX does lots more...LE just gets you started.

[QUOTE=BradS71]I am using (insert chuckle here) the Cubase LE that came with my Tascam FW-1804 interface.

I use Cubase SX3....now. Started with cubasis...and moved up. The only way you will get the full advantage from Cubase is spend some more bucks and upgrade to SX3. It will cost you some more bucks. But when you find out Tascam is not so supportive and decide to change........the knowledge in Cubase will transfer to other products. I am still using an old Tascam USB 428 for my connection to the computer.........but if I got any other hardware I would do lots of research...........Tascam likes to hide when you want answers........at least that is my experience.

Good Tascaming.......
