drum machine for metal
just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a good drum machine for an extreme metal solo project. sound would be important, but i would also want to create some original and complex beats, so im also looking for something relatively easy to use. i know drum programming will take a lot of time regardless, but is there a program that is flexible without being extremely tedious? thanks

Drumkit From Hell Superior
It is perfect for extreme metal. For an example, this song is DFHS (sorry about the shamless plug )http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=2450

I used to program some sick death metal on a Boss/Roland MKii I think it was called. It just had a great layout, and once you get the programming down it goes pretty fast. I can't stand any drum programming that involves me clicking with a mouse, so I always go with external type units. By the time I'm done, my mouse finger is twitching from all the damn clicking. Then, after staring at the computer screen for a few hours programming the drums, you get to stare at it some more to when you go to record and mix your shit. Then your finger is twitching and you're blind.
If I were to use an external one now, I'd get an SR-16, although I don't think it programs as quickly as the boss. |

Anyway, I didn't find it hard to learn at all. If you don't know squat about drums you'll struggle with programming them no matter what you use but if you do I don't see what would be hard about it. So many people complain about it being hard to use.....I just don't get it.....It seems to me that they don't read the manual or something. I was laying down drum tracks in no time. ![]()

I would second the DFHS. You need a host program also, so it can cost some, but with a bit of help, I have made a few drum tracks that sound pretty good, and I know nothing about drumming. It will take some time, but with different drumkits, and being able to pick mic's, it is very versatile.
Just my $1.28.... ![]()
