Cool i want lo-fi

ok for a little background...

im in iraq...

at home i record with cakewalk guitar pro 3, mxl 990, art preamp, m-audio-quattro, and my desktop

here i have purchased an averatec laptop and downloaded the demo of n-track...

i am recording acoustic guitar, vocals and homemade percussion..

im planning on purchasing a Samson C01U to interface with the recording program...

is this compatable with N-track?

ps i want lofi sound cause its all gonna be covered up with a tape hiss/saturation plugin any way

also is there a loop engine or something whtere you can sync loops up in n-trackk?

O.K., I fixed the top link!

Samson USB mic

Just a thought, that your "source" is going to be important no matter what kind of treatment you want to give it. I mean, don't look for a crappy microphone! But this Samson might be fine, I have no knowledge of it.

The MXL stuff is pretty good, and they also do a USB mic jig. Google "MXL", and add "USB" to it, etc.

Far as loops, I'm sure you can do that in n-Track. My machine's been on a bench, and I'm waiting for a soundcard I bought used, so I don't have the procedure down yet. I do on Cool Edit!... but yeah, you can surely do looping.

Check out FaSoft, and go see the user forum- lots of good info and forward help there for that app. Tell 'em Sloom sent you.

It looks as though it runs on WDM drivers, so I don't why it wouldn't work with n-track as n-track fully supports wdm but yeah, I'd shoot the question to fasoft to get second opinions as well.

You can easily find a lo-fi plugin or sonic decimator for free if you dig around on the net.

As far as looping, n-track does have a loop feature where you can select the wav regions you want to loop, hit the button and it will loop for you either o jam along with or to record. I haven't figured out exactly how to record the looped phrases playing back but I'm sure the big N can do.

okokok

scratched the samson mic...

gonna go with a tascam us122/sm57 and just use the factory preamps and stuff...

ive heard some vox through the 57/tascam combo and they were killer. ill just have to hope the same is true with the acoustic guitar...

this forum overall is killer

how is the stock compressor that comes with ntrack? cause all i plan to use is compression/reverb

on all the tracks

The n-Track compressor is pretty good, actually. It's very adjustable, and if you have some procedure down for tweaking a comp to start with, you can get satisfactory (I presume to speak for you here) results from it. Yep.
I like the reverb, too. If you get good sounds into your machine, the n-Track plugs'll enhance them nicely.

n-Track is definitely worth having, even if you have nothing else.
