using housing household swithes and dimmers to make a selector

im thinkin of makeing a monitor selector with a light dimmer-wheel and a few swithes. would this work????

I don't think a typical dimmer would allow for anything effective. http://www.users.bigpond.com/aagreen/passive03.html . There's a link for assembling some passive boxes... have at it hoss.
