I'm sorry, so many searches...ideas for quick, cheapest GP9 tape?

I've previously used US recording media, but any ideas on a quick place to pick up a good GP9 1.2" 2500' on metal reel?

Oh yeah, since I already have a 456 reel of tape but no GP9 which my MSR will now be biased for, will it hurt anything if I record scratch tracks on the 456 reel in the meantime? Don't want to fuck up the new $125 re-bias for GP9 in any way.

As far as I know these two are the cheapest around, unless you find a deal on ebay.

Check shipping costs to see who really has the best total cost.

EDIT:

It wont hurt anything to run the 456 after its set for GP9; it just might not sound so good. From what I can gather the levels will be +5, which is well within what 456 can tolerate. The bias will be stronger, which can make 456 sound muffled with a lack of crispness.

Or who knows maybe you'll like it and it will become part of you signature sound.

go ahead dude; just record something.

I think you are going to like the GP9 though....

you might want to burn through some tape while experimenting with levels...

Whatever you do I would NOT recommend RMG tape!!! I bought a reel to try out and after the first 5 or 6 hundred feet the guides and heads were so dirty I had to clean them. Dark brown tape shed was horrid. I called the company and had a replacement sent out and that one was somewhat better. I have been looking into ATR tape. This looks to be the best tape. I have talked to one of the founders of this tape and I was impressed with the company. The web address is http://www.atrtape.com/
Give them a call and I am sure they can help you out.

RMGI's manufacturing issues have largely been resolved, and were resolved more than a couple of years ago. It's as "safe" as safe can be when buying tape.

I tried out new RMG SM911 tape on both my 1/2" machines Fostex E-16 & Tascam TSR-8 without any problems. Both machines in VGC condition.

RMG tape quality & sound is comparable to the earlier BASF / EMTEC brands IMO

I too had experienced I shedding reel of SM911 a couple years ago.

Contacted the retailer which ultimately led to direct telephone conversations with Phil Paske of RMGI North America. He was informative and helpful, and after ascertaining that it was indeed a bad batch of tape I had a new reel of tape. It came quick and has performed flawlessly.
