Talking Just recieved my Studio Projects VTB-1!

Though I havent had time to test it thoroughly, from what I have heard so far it is amazing for the price! I picked it up new for $92 based on the great reviews I had read, and I am not at all dissapointed. Quite the opposite. This thing has plenty of features, and I especially loved the "tube blend" feature. I honestly didnt expect to hear much of a difference between the solid state and tube signals, but on my vocals there was a noticeable difference. The SS signal was very clean and sounded great, and when I turned the knob all the way over to the tube blend, my vocals were noticeably warmer. They sounded edgy and kind of rough-sounding, but in a good way. To anyone considering buying this preamp- stop wasting time and buy it!

I picked up 2 VTB1s at the PMI website for lots less than $92...Sorry, had to rub that in...I agree with you though, the blend feature makes for a nice effect, to me it adds an "analog" warmth to my cold, clinical digital signal path... I was using a Mackie VLZ channel strip as a pre, but the VTB1 eliminates a lot of adjustments.

Worth much more than the $70 I paid for them...

B-Stock (stuff that had been used for reviews, etc.)...Go to their website ( http://www.pmiaudio.com/ ) and find the link for B-Stock items...It's all good, just less $$. Same warranty, checked out for quality, etc...I bought JM27s from B-Stock, along with the VTB1s and a pair of C4s...B-Stock RULES!!

Dulock Mangrove is on a distinguished road
I too picked one up from the backstock section. Figured it was worth trying for $70. I am using it as a DI into Amplitube, and I was blown away by the sounds you could get. You can even get a real nice subtle distortion on guitar with it by cranking the input gain and the tube blend. Well worth the $100 they cost new. Beats the pants off the Beri DI-1000.

im not sure which surprised me the most... the amazing sounds I got out of this thing or the fact that it cost me less than $100!

I dont think I'll be upgrading again until I can afford an Avalon...

had a vtb-1 and sold it. i still have the art tube mp . its a first year production and it has a sound to it. the vtb-1 i didnt like on bass near as much. the toob in it wasnt as warm to me as the art tube mp. you can snag tube mp-s for like 30- to 40 dollars all day long. i never got the vtb-1. is it supposed to be a higher quality toob?

No, it's supposed to be what you use it for. If you can't dial it in, you can't dial it in. Goes for a lot of other equipment as well. Call it personal preference if you want, call it inferior technology. Some of us can make it work and love it--Deal with that...

Thumbs up

That's a excellent deal you got there Diffusion! You (and several others) have
hyped my curiosity and re-awakend the gear monkey on my back.

Right now, my mini pre arsenal consists of a Grace 101, DMP3, ART TPSII, Presonus BlueTube DP and a used Summ-Audio 2BA-221. Not hi-end nor the best of the pre-world, (though the Grace yields most exceptional results) yet my lil' collection offers me some variety in mic "flavor", "color" & overall perfomance. I've listened to several acoustic & vocal perfs in the MP3 forum
where the VTB-1 was used and read many opinions, reviews etc. for/against this particular pre but what's got me all twisted wanting a VTB-1.............
.....................................the ultimate reason.....................................
.............is the got-d@mnn, lo-@ss, freakin' price you, stetto & Dulock paid for this pre!!!!! !!!!

Yeah man, 1 of these days I'm gonna' get me a "Frankie" AVALON pre(maybe by the end of the year! ) but in the mean time, my cheap & broke-@ss will now be ordering a VTB-1 to add to my
pre collection & at them prices ya' can't go wrong!!

Peace

I have a VTB1 and its not so bad...I did upgrade since and I can say that what Im using now is alot better.

But the two channel Im using is arround the same price as two VTB1s

The line 6 ux2 is a gem for 200 bucks and the digital out enables me to add 2 more channels of input to my Akai dps16...models a Neve 1076....avalon...API...etc.

So that UX2 is worth it? I've been wondering about them ever since they arrived on the market...How does it do on the modeling?
