WANTED: M Audio BX5 or BX8 monitors

Before I check on Ebay just wanted to see if anyone here is considering parting with their monitors... preferably Bx5's... willing to pay anywhere from $120 to $180 for used... depends on their condition... let me know..

Hey Diffusion, I have SBP-5s, the predecessor of the BX5. The problem is, in each monitor one of my children has poked a finger into the bass cone.... so now they rattle at loud, low frequencies. The cones will have to be replaced.

Given that, I'll sell the pair to you for 25 bucks, plus actual shipping from Florida.

Just to clarify: No holes in either cone, just indentations. I don't know enough to trust myself to try and fix 'em.

i appreciate the offer, but they sound like they are pretty old... i cant even find any information about them online... i am looking for some monitors that are in good enough condition that they can still be used for a good while... i think ill pass, thanks for the offer though...

Fab4ever: If the dents in those speakers are just in the spherical section in the center of the cone, you may be able to fix them, provided they're not torn or punctured. I had that problem with a monitor once and was able to "suck" the dent out using a hose on a powerful vacuum cleaner. Got it right back into shape, and it sounded just fine afterwards!

i know this is probably just an opinion and perspective...but are the bx5a's better than the bx8's?

Don't quote me on this but I believe the differance is about 3 inches in the size of the woofer!

I've heard every iteration of the 5's and 8's and IMO, the 5's have always sounded better. Sure the 8's have better bass (if more=better in your book), but it's always been at the expense of the high end. the highs on the 5's have always been smoother and less hyped/piercing sounding.

I have the original SP-5B (which is why you can't find anything on SBP-5 ), and IMO they sound better than the BX5's or any of the later 8's. they translate VERY nicely from anywhere about 250Hz on up.

Hey Fab4Ever,

Remove the speaker from the box, disconnect it and blow into the vent in the back of the speaker. Works almost every time. You have to put some pressure behind it, but the dust cap usually pops right back into shape.

Dang kids.
