I'm retired and a Trumpet player in a band for a long time and always been interested in recording. This is what I have to start with. Please tell if it's a good start or what?

Pentium 400
128 meg ram
5 gig free space
CDR
Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0
Band in a Box 9.0
Peavey RQ 200 6 channel mixer console ($200)
Darla24 PCI card and breakout box. Will receive tommorow.
Peavey PVM45i unidirectional Dynanic Mic 40-16k Hz-XLR ($110)
Roland sound Bd internal ISA - Sounds great! ($300 4 years ago)

Roland PC-200 midi keybd cont.

I want to record and mix trumpet, sax and Midi and record to CD and have something that sounds good. Is this a good start? What else do I need?

Thanks for any help or advise.

Gordon

Welcome Gaffer,

You need a new hard disc. A 20G 7200rpm IDE disc doesn't cost much nowadays and should keep you going for quite some time. Regardless of the disc size, make sure it is a 7200rpm (not 5400rpm). Keep your existing hard disc for Windows and programs and use the new one for recorded data only. Check out the computer forum and you'll get all the info you need on hard disc, configurations, etc.

Other than that, I guess you're all set for starters.

Cheers

/Ola

Thanks Ola,

A new 7200 rpm hard drive is next and a whole new computer in fact. Probably a pen 3, 850 mghz.
