Question

I have the Roland JV-1010 and have used it with Sound Diver hooked up via serial port to my pc. My soundcard does not have any MIDI ins or outs.

I'm probably going to be buying other equipment that can be manipulated by software (like POD for instance) through MIDI connections. Can I connect from my computer to the JV-1010 serial port and then chain to other gear using the JV-1010 MIDI Thru port? Will that work or do I need a soundcard with MIDI ins/outs so I have a direct connection?

(Hope I've explained this clearly enough...)

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to do that -- connect the POD the the Roland's MIDI Thru port and have it set to ignore MIDI messages when you want the POD to get them... by judicious use of channels you might even get both to work independently without being too limited...
