A Few Noob Questions Involves[Audition/AudiophileUSB/Recording]

Ok im trying to get this home recording thing down but with no success
i just recently made a few purchases
M-Audio - Audiophile 2496 USB
Adobe Audition 1.5
and my my mic
im pretty new to home recording so my knowledge is miminal
everything seems to be hooked up correctly but im having trouble getting started.
i have my mic plugged into the phantom power and then running into the my card via Right Input
now when i begin audition it starts up nice no problems i place an instrumental down and play the beat it works fine but when i go to record over the beat a few problems happen
one the beat speeds up and i dont know how to get it back down to the normal speed but the problem stops when i stop recording
now part 2 when recording the mic only pics up the right
is it possible to have both?i know if i mix the track down it will come out both sides,and when i record it records so damn low i cant even hear it?
how can i turn up the mic vol?well maybe not the volume how would i get my mic to pick up sound better cuz right now it isnt picking up anything except dust the mic im using is a AKG C2000b
any help would be great
