Hello, I am in the market for a good Mini Disc Player/recorder. I was looking at the "Sony MZ-R37 Portable Minidisc Player/Recorder" I am a complete novice with Mini Discs. I don't even know anyone that has one. Never actually held one in my hand. However I am going to get a home studio set up together and I heard that they are wonderful lfor down mixing and other shit. CAN ANYONE give me some advice on if the SOny MZ-R37 is worth a crap. I can get it for $199 rather than $300 brand new. But if it is COMPLETELY over priced and not worth the money then someone please save me and my bank account from making yet another financial mistake. Also, I was wondering (Perhaps more importantly) if it is possible to coppy a CD onto Mini Disc with only a portable Sony Disc Man to the Sony Mini Disc. So that I can use it for personal use or do you have to buy a copier or whatever. And if you can copy it do I have to have special cables or can I just plug the 2 into each other?? How does it work?? I am in Munich Germany and can't ask anyone because I don't speak German. Equipment is cheaper here by a lot, but it is impossible to ask anything in detail. I can order food and beer in a Biergarten. But can't discuss the downmixing capabilities and recording features of a Sony Disc man. All I knwo is that All the kids have them here instead of Disc Men and "I want one to listen too as well". Thank YOU all!!!

Save your Pezzutos and get an 8 track MD-8; you choose the brand. I use the Yamaha and it is pretty easy to use right out of the box. That's not saying that the manual is cloudy in spots; they all are.

However, 4 track will get you into bouncing and when you bounce you no longer can tweak individual tracks that you have overdubbed.

Some dudes really like the 4 track; however, 8 tracks or more is better.

Get into the thick of things and buy a unit. It keeps the economy going.

I think your talking about two track, right? Just normal stereo?

Yes, you can copy CD's direct to your MD recorder. All you need is a cable with 1/8th" plugs on either end. Although, it is better to get a cd player with digital outs, as it will make a better copy. All MD recorders I've seen have a digital input, and the Sharp MS722 (the one i have) came with both digital and analog cables.

Which ever one you decide to buy, get a newer one, as the ATRAC compression is always getting better.
