22x32 bass drum, gonna build one

I have two bass drum shells that I am just itching to do something creative with. I tried turning one into a giant floor tom, but it never sounded like I wanted it to, so i'm thinking of putting them both together (some how) and making a very deep bass drum, for really wicked sounds I hope.

Anyone ever done this or heard of it being done?

the last recording i did we attached a 22x16 and a 22x18 together without a fronthead. Sounded really cool really deep and with some good punch.

How did you attach them? I have several Ideas but was hoping to find someone with prior expirence first.

we didn't fully attach them in that it would be portable or one piece. But either way what we did was remove all the lugs from the sides that connect as well as one of the hoops, we then just stuck them together with the hoops. We didn't do anything permanent or anything to keep them from seperating because they were going to stay in a stationary position the whole time it was assembled. dunno if that was any help or not.

Maybe ancient post, but how exactly did you use the hoops to attach them, if you could provide some specifics that would be really cool, either way though I wanna play with that.

I thought of doing this once, I had 6 lugs that came off a couple of floor toms that the tom legs went into, you could drill holes in the shells and put three of the lugs on each bass drum in line with one another and cut the tom legs and put them through the leg holders and tighten the wing nuts. This way you can take them apart if you wanted to or just keep them together. I never tried this myself but i would guess that it would work pretty good.

If you're going for an airtight seal and a very clean look, you will have to flush-route the edges or pop it onto a very accurate fine-kerfed table saw. Bearing routed edges do not seal well and do not have much gluing area. But basically the extent of this would be to get the edges trimmed flat, glue, and clamp clamp clamp. Let sit for a couple of days, and you've got one HUGE bass drum. Good luck!
