so its not recording.. but advice on a PA for house shows/small venues
i have a mixer so that isn't important at all.
right now i have a Realistic (radio shack) 100W pa head and it is weak and muddy to say the least. i've plugged it into a variety of speakers, but i never had a proper loud speaker. i'd used home speakers with guitar speakers thrown in, guitar cabs, bass cabs, etc. they were never really loud enough to project through a full band (latest band i put it up against it was 2 2x10 guitar cabs, a 15" bass cab, a 12" keyboard cab, and a drumset, and you couldn't hear shit) so basically i'm looking to upgrade. i'd rather come here for advice rather than go perusing musicians friend looking for some 400W power amp with speakers, cause if they're noisy as hell and distort easy they aren't going to do me any good. this is going to be used exclusively for vocals and maybe something like a violin, so a big low end isn't necessary. CLARITY is! i'm using a soundcraft mixer with sweepable eq so i can adjust everything nicely, i just need to get some power going. this is mainly going to be used for rooms no larger than 20x20. living rooms and small record stores, mostly.

oh yea i can get these for retarded cheap since i work at circuit city. i cranked them with a 2 channel 200W onkyo power amp and they were ungodly loud.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/MTX-D...oductDetail.do if we hadn't short circuited that power amp i'd probably go with that, despite it being consumer shit at best.

let me make sense of this thread:
i don't think i'll ever need 2 channels but if most heads are 2 channel i guess i can live with it. honestly i only need one. one channel of an outboard compressor would be nice if there are any cheap ones that don't suck. hell i only think i'd need one speaker, but i can live with 2. i'd also like to get some speaker stands just to get the speakers off the ground (not so much for isolation). so... 1. power amp 2. speaker(s) 3. compressor? 4. speaker stand

I'd just look at those powered jbl speakers. They seem to work well.

There's a Live Events forum here that mayt be a better place to ask these questions.

I dont think "live streaming, radio shows, HomeRec get-togethers, etc." has much to do with live sound.
I'd check out http://srforums.prosoundweb.com/ |

This is the other equipment forum so this would be the best place to ask about equipment which has nothing to do with recording.

This would be the bare minimum of what you would need.
