Question Volume problem during recording

Im using Cool Edit Pro Version 2.0. I am running a gibson Les Paul through a Behringer X V-amp directly into my sound card in my desktop PC. When i record a riff, the initial volume at the beginning of the recorded riff is quite low, much lower than it should be. It takes about 1-2 seconds and the recorded sample will gradually increase in volume up to where it should be. It is as if there is an automatic 1-2 second volume fade in going on. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
