compressor questions......................

Is it worth buying a compresser for recording? I have a firepod. If i were to buy a compressor, where would i hook it up? Is there a big difference between compessors? Can i buy one for $100?

Not unless you know how to use it.

If the firepod has a channel insert, there perhaps.

Well, yes. You get what you pay for, but that doesn't mean that an inexpensive one is a piece of shit, it just means a 100 dollar Behringer is not going to sound like a Distressor.

Absolutely, see my above answer.

Alesis 3630's are selling for $100 right now. Bashed often, but way better than a Behringer me thinks. Do a google......

Better? No, I don't think so.

They sound different though.

Well, the 3630 is good if you want some savage pumping stuff. Tends to work on dance tunes, in fact in a way it defined the 90's sound.

I'd recommend the RNC as an inexpensive yet good compressor. It can be transparent or rude, depending on how you use it.

Yeah, but that's true of ANY compressor, even the 3630.

From a learner's perspective, the first bit of vocal home recording I did was without a compressor, and so I had to raise and lower the volume of the audio in the software to control the dynamics.
Software nowdays has some pretty good virtual compressor plugins, but in order to be able to control the dymanics on the way *into* the computer (mainly to avoid clipping the signal too often) an outboard compressor is a very useful tool.
I don't know what the conversion rate is like for where you are, but here in Aus, the cheapest compressors are the behringer composer pros for about Aus$200 (retail).
They are OK to get you started and are pretty good value for money (unless you get a dodgy unit, which seems to be a common complaint amongst forum members)
