Best Set Up for Studio???? Please Advise

I love this guide… I have learn so much in the last 48 hours...some I understand and much I am still confused but I will read it again…WOW I have learned so much about the equipment. I need some clarification on one thing which I may still be confused. This is my set up and this is what I want to do….What is the best configuration?

I have the Behringer UB2442 for my mixer, FOSTEX 160EX for my Multitracker, TRUTH 2031A for my studio monitor. These choices were selected based on my reading Home Recording books and praying that I was purchasing the right equipment (which I did before I discovered this site).

I want to connect my MICs and Instruments (Keyboard, Guitar, Organ, etc) to the mixer and then connect the mixer to the Multitracker to record and mix again and send it to the mixer to verify mixing and back to the FOSTEX Multitracker to burn CD. I guess I am sub mixing (I think). Is this possible? If so what is the best connection to make it work.

Additionally, I will be recording songs that I have previously sequenced and saved on a disk. (I hope because this is a midi that is still possible) I want to send the sequenced songs to the Mixer track to tracker (Example: Channel 1 from sequenced Performance set to the channel one on the mixer, channel two on the sequenced music to channel two on the mixer, etc. etc). This way I can mix the previous music more completely with all the effects than I did using just the Yamaha EX5 keyboard. Then I can bring in the vocals to do the singing. I have tried and I can’t get sound to the Multitracker. I can hear it thru the monitors and head phone connected to the Mixer but it does not pick up in the FOSTEX.

The cable from the Yamaha Keyboard is going into the Line-in of channel one of the mixer. I have the cable coming out to the direct output for channel one going into the channel one of the Multitracker…. I followed the procedure for the FOSTEX to direct record from a source which is the Mixer by way of the keyboard…. Am I looking at this correctly? I want to do a Nursing Home ministry where I can leave CDs with those in the nursing home when our group goes there for an outreach ministry. Please advise what is best with the mixer being the center of my work.

One more question, can I connect the TRUTH 2031A studio monitor to the UB2442 using the XLR connector and to the FOSTEX 160EX at the same time using the ¼ jack. There are two connectors on the back of the TRUTHS and I wanted to be able to hear the speaker from the mixer and Multitracker or should I get another set of studio monitors?

I appreciate you help….I live in a small town and there is not much expertise available to me even though I have gotten the equipment locally. Everyone suggest I go to computer and software but my desire is to do it this way for now and I also thought the learning curve would be easier. Maybe longer but easier..

Thanks

Someone give this guy some help! I don't know enough about his equiptment and or possibly his questions. lol. I'll attempt to answer one fo your questions however.

As for your question here. Read your manual. I'm not positive but I don't think you want or can hook up two devices to your monitors at the same time. The purpose of having a XLR and 1/4" jack is to provide more then one method of hooking up being more universal (Someone correct me if I'm wrong please... so I can learn as well... is the process of hooking on monitor up to two devices with XLR and 1/4" a bad practice or even possible?) I think You can hook your monitors up to either the fostex or the ub2442. I believe they both take 1/4" TRS for the main outputs. So if your monitors have XLR and 1/4" inputs I would get some XLR to 1/4" TRS. Just as long (length of the cable) as you need them. Mine are 6 feet since everything is right next to each other. You could do balanced 1/4" to 1/4" which people on here will say is just as good. I really don't know the answer they are both balanced so... but I've talked to music stores that said if you got XLR then go XLR to 1/4" saying that XLR is more stable of a connection.

Anyway... someone correct me if I'm wrong and help this dude out yo!! Wish I knew more about setting up gear I would help you out. I just picked up my first piece of hardware (Mackie Onyx 400f) a few weeks ago after researching on here and reading books too.
