Keystation and BCR2000

I bought an M-audio keystation49e and a Behringer BCR2000. I am trying to manipulate synth controls (from VST's) in real time using the knobs on the BCR. How should I go about connecting all this and what U or S setting should I use on the BCR? The keyboard has both USB and MIDI out, and the BCR has MIDI in, MIDI out, and USB. Also, I am using a MOTU 828mkii as my audio interface, so I could use the MIDI in on that as well. I tried every combination I could think of with no luck. The keyboard plays fine, but I can't manipulate the controls on the BCR.

I tried this with my previous keyboard and had success as long as I didn't use the USB port on the BCR. I just ran the MIDI out on the keyboard to the MIDI in of the BCR. Then MIDI out of BCR to the MIDI in of the MOTU. But I couldn't change MIDI channels from my old keyboard, so I got the keystation.
