i ve heard many bad comments about the c1000 as an overhead mic, personaly i think its a good mic...not the best! i think it sounds good on acoustic instruments too....so i m just wondering, what would you record with a c1000?

I've heard it's a pretty decent horn mic. This was mostly from people who honked while repeatedly driving over it though.

I like them on snare and toms. They're pretty decent in front of an amp too. Not much else though.

I dunno...a fart maybe... Every time I've ever used them (large vocal groups, small vocal groups, drum overheads, woodwinds, brass, etc.) they have always been unnecessarily harsh. I'm not talking just bright like some mics are designed to be...this was HARSH.

I currently use a pair of AKG C1000s as overhead mics and another for hi-hats as well and have gotten excellent results. I have (4) of these.

I also use this mic in combination with an SM57 to mic guitar cabinets.. You will get a fatter sound with more clarity than using the SM57 alone..

I haven't tried it on acoustics as of yet; however, you should get pretty good results with it..

Any of those songs, we used the C1000s on the ride cymbal and any Rhodes keyboard and Clavinet tracks. Also used it on the bass speaker of the Leslie for the B3 tracks.

I agree, it isn't all that bad of a mic. I have a pair, and when I don't have any other SD for overheads, I don't hesitate to whip them out.

akg c1000s

used it on dobro - good results
used it on banjo - fair results
used it on harmonica - fair results
used it on acoustic guitar - poor results
used it on vocals - poor results
used it on mandolin - fair results

that is all...except I read one reviewer who said he liked it live on his fiddle but he didn't like to use it for recording. Most every other thing I've read about it on Home Recording.com said it is junk but I guess it has some functionality. It certainly hasn't proven to be the "workhorse" or "go to" mike that the manufacturer claims it to be.

Bought one, sold one. There are so many better mics out there.

This is the only condensor mic i've ever come in contact with

It does sound harsh though, I can agree with that. I just have nothing to compare it to.

I found the best mic position for this one was sitting at the bottom of my closet collecting dust.
