portable recorder/outdoor recordings

hello, i m looking for a portable recorder for outdoor recordings...i guess a laptop would be good but i cant afford one at the moment...i m looking for something that will allow me to do stereo recordings (with 2 mics). has any of you guys something in mind? thanks

Other than a laptop, the two major options would be:

M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 (May be priced lower than M-Audio suggests)

or
one of the new style Sony MiniDisc recorders that records full quality and supports USB transfer. Sorry, no link readily available.

I'm looking at getting an Edirol R-1 unit for this purpose. (Would love a portable DAT and a stereo mic, but way out of my price range.)
It is slightly larger than palm-sized (unless you're a male Lowland Gorilla ), and records in stereo via built in condenser mics onto smart media cards.
So, depending on how long you need to make your recordings, this might be an option.
Was tested by a guy here at work and he gave it the thumbs up.
