Rock music, compression & 16 v 24 bit
I was just thinking.
Given the tendancy to squash the bejesus out of final mixes, and the (usually) limited dynamic range requirements of rock music, what, if any, is the benefit of recording at 24 bit over 16 bit? If the final 2 track is going to be made loud enough to compete with everything else, what do the extra 8 bits give me at tracking time, apart from chewing up more disk? |
