Background noise?

Does anyone ever listen to a CD, and there's a guy singing and maybe one instrument, and there's something in the background filling out any spaces in the song? What are they using to fill the background?

Uhhhhhh....maybe you should post an audio example.

It could be reverb. It could be noise. Who knows without hearing something?

Sounds like he's talking about reverb.

I've always like city traffic sounds or even busy short order kitchens...just stay away from running water sounds, I find that it makes me get up and go .

I don't have any audio samples, but here's an example. Maybe yoou guys know the song. "Soldier Side" By System of a Down. Whats that background sound at the very begginning? Not the string arrangement, but the other background noise?

I listened to the song. I have no idea what it is. I would probably try an analog synth to get that sound.
