VF-16 to PC?

Does anybody have any experience transferring songs from the VF-16 to a PC? I have a CD burner installed on my computer and admit I don't know what's involved with getting a song from the VF-16 to the computer so I can burn. (I do have an external Philips CD burner, but the onboard PC burner is much more economical)

Any thoughts on how the hook-up would be made? What kind of soundcard and how much hard drive space would I need available? What kind of connecting cables/wires etc..?

Any sound card will work. You could get by really cheap with a Soundblaster, and though it would be an analog transfer, the quality is still reasonable.

If you can afford it, you should take advantage of the digital outputs of the VF-16 for a better sound quality. You can still get S/PDIF sound cards for under $200. Check out http://www.digitalexperience.com/cards.html

Twist! thanks for the info (and the link)... more questions.. What format does the song get transferred from the VF16 to PC? Is it in .wav format? If so, how much space will I need on my hard drive?

I've heard if I bump a song from the VF16 out of the SCSI to something like a zip drive, it's my understanding that it does so with a proprietary Fostex format, which can't be read by PC or PC CD burners. True?

Yes, that's true, it's proprietary. It's not wave. Hard drive space of course depends on how much data you've got, but a standard 70-80 min cd holds about 600 megabytes, so plan for that, and you'll be fine.

A few weeks back, there was a thread in this forum about the Fostex cd burner; model 300 something something, and it was said that you could save data to it as well as use it as a mix-down deck. Go back over the last couple weeks posts, and you should find it.
