roland rd170 OR rd-300sx??
hi there people
im torn between two options, as it states in the title, the roland rd170 or the roland rd300sx. the rd300sx is more expensive, i want to know if the extra cash is worth paying for what im getting in comparison with the 170. ive done some research, and i know (after trying out the 170 in my local sound control) that the 170 has a sustain pedal. when reading about the 300sx, there is no mention of a sustain pedal, which worries me as that is essential! the problem is my local sound control doesnt have a 300sx in store, so i have no oppertunity to try. there is also the rd700sx (out of my price range) BUT i have had a play on that in my local sound control. if anybody has played on all three of these keyboards, they could tell me, what is the action like on the 300sx? i found the 700sx too heavy and the 170 about right, is the 300sx more like the 700sx in terms of how "heavy" the keys are, or is it more like the 170. there the two main things which ive been thinking about. if there is any other reason why i should get one or the other, please say, i dont want to make the wrong choice! thanks in advance. Steve

Roland Pianos
I have played all three, and I too prefer the action on the RD170.
I come from synth/organ type action and that's why I like the lighter RD170 action. That said, the RD300sx will make a better controller, because of it's MIDI implementation, and pitch & mod wheels. It also has many more factory sounds builtin. BUT, if you are going to use this as a "stand alone" piano only, then by all means I'd stick with the cheaper RD170. The RD700sx & RD300sx have similar heavier action. Hope this helps Paul |
