Hollow vocals

Hello, I'm having trouble making the vocals sound good. I have a condenser mike, I can't remember the name of it, and I use Cool Edit Pro and I have a Behringer 8 channel mixer. When I record vocals, they always sound hollow. What can I do to fix that?

Thanks! Missy

Knowing the mic is going to help - Also knowing the rest of the chain. And if you have a sample that you can post, that'll do wonders.

Hollow vocals

Hi! The mic I use is a Marshall MXL 990. My mixer is Behringer Eurorack UB 802, and I use Cool Edit Pro version 2.1. How do I attach a sample?

Hollow Vocals with mp3 attachment

Hi, I've tried to attach a sample but my file type is invalid. Sorry about that!

Alright here's the *stoopid* question - You're singing into the right side of the mic for sure, yes?

Sorry - This is actually a pretty common mistake that I thought we'd get out of the way until you can get a sample up somewhere...

ohhhhhhhh gosh, please don't think I'm stupid. Which is the correct side? It didn't say in the instructions that there was a correct side, and they both look the same. I am hoping that you are going to be sweet to me.... if that's the problem, then I am one happy person. Thanks

Usually the side with a logo on one side, but it may vary from mic to mic.

The MXL 990 has a large diamond with the letters "MXL" embossed on the side that you should sing into. Note that you address the side, and not the end, of the mic (unlike the typical handheld dynamic mic used for live performance).
