Saw the one in the latest Musician's Friend and was interested in any opinions. I think it was under $400 US...

well..I'm pretty sure alesis makes the groove tubes mic ( I may be wrong)..and the pre-alesis mics are generally thought of better then the ones made by alesis. I've never tried the mic so I cant say, but I just thought I would give you that info.

Wink Yeah...

The GT Electronics labeled mics are made by Alesis. Browse http://www.groovetubes.com to see what mics Groove Tubes use to make.

They sell the AM11 for $379 and claim it's a tube mic, but it isn't. It's reviewed in the latest mm (Swedish magazine) and got descent reviews. Doesn't seem to be spectacular for the price.

Regebro's right

Any real tube mic you find that's worth a crap is gonna cost you at LEAST $700 (and that's used). I have the GT AM61 which they came out with recently and was pretty impressed with it's sound and sensitivity.

Wink I Tend To Disagree

The 797 Audio CR100/ADK A-51TC/MXL V77/Nady TCM 1100 is worth it if you take into account other things besides the price when you decide which one to buy; I'd probably go with the A-51TC or V77 (most likely this one) myself out of those above.

Also, there is that Groove Tubes 6TM which I don't like as much as the "A Series" (3A is my favorite), but at the price Full Compass is selling them for, it's worth it!

Oh, I don't know anything about this mic so I won't say anything other than the Carvin CM98ST is at least worth looking into and listening/comparing others to.

Lastly, I JUST read TODAY The Sound Room is re-releasing a limited supply of the RTT VM100s around the end of the year because of the high-demand. I promise they'll go quick, but you can go ahead and put in an order now to insure you'll get one. AND expect the RTT MKL100 and MKL102 to come-out soon; I know at least one will have a price-tag of < $1kUS, if not both.
