Midi Update

I have a software update for a the moog voyager. After reading the documents given with the software, it states,"transfer update thru midi". I believe I can send the update thru a midi connection. How would I be able to do so, using Pro tools?

protools will be useless in this instance.

You need to download midiox, load the sysex file in there and send it to the voyager over the midi wire.

Go to KVR and do a search there. They don't have the greatest search engine, but if you search for Mac freeware SysEx program you should come up with a few bites.

The other choice, assuming your version of protools has midi capability, is to record the sysex information into a midi file, load it into a track and play it back into the Voyager. The channels need to match and you probably want to send it at a slower tempo than you recorded it just so you don't overflow the sysex buffers in the moog --- an example would be to record it @ 120 bpm and play it back at 80 bpm.

Just for the record, you could certainly use ProTools for this. Or pretty much any other midi sequencer that I know of. You would open the update file into a midi track in PT and from there send it to the Moog. There is no need to record the track into the sequencer, just open it in the sequencer.
