Cubase VST & "optimizing" hard drive

Hi there,

I've got Cubase VST loaded on a Pentium 4 with Windows 98SE as the operating system.

I've noticed that I can't defragment the hard drive that Cubase is loaded on... I can defrag my other drives, no problem.

Is there something about the copy protection in Cubase that affects the Windows 98 utilities?

I ask about copy protection because I've got Wavelab 3, which specifically says in the manual that there won't be any problems with "optimizing" the hard drive (i.e., defrag) due to copy protection...

im not sure that thats causing the problem, but itll definately fix it....

I noticed massive performance increase by switching from win2000 to XP pro... my latency went from 125ms to 5 ms !!!!!!

I've used Cubase VST for years with 98SE and a P4 with no problems. Your problem most likely is caused by spyware, spyware protection or something similar which is accessing your harddrive and interrupting the defrag process.

There shouldn't be anything on VST that stops you from defragging.
