No indication of a price, but probably expensive. Because of the advertising factor, you'd think the mic companies would pay for the thing and offer it for free. Also, because new mics come out all the time, it'll be out of date before it reaches the printers. What you need is a library that orders the annually updated version all the time. What we need is a website, paid for by the mic companies, that updates the page daily. 3D Audio is planning a similar approach on its website for its upcoming mic comparison, BTW - pictures, specs, applications, etc.

That's alright... I have a feeling there are PLENTY of "old" mics not in production AND STILL in production today that you or I aren't aware of.

In spite of the Bangs and Pacquette books, I still think a coffee table book of vintage and current mics would be a hot seller even at a high price tag. I'd certainly line up for one...

Once, a while back, way back, I was talking to a guy at an audio store and I asked him, like what kind of mics did Sinatra use to get those great, clear vocals....?

You know, those old-great-looking kind of square mics that you see once in a while on tv commercials or old radio/tv talk shows?

Can't remember the brand names but he told me they were very expensive...possibly were they ribbon mics?

They are available but they are out of my price range.

Do you know what type of mic I'm talking about?

I know at one point of Sinatra's life, he ABSOLUTELY WOULDN'T sing into ANYTHING but a Telefunken U47; and if I remember correctly, ONLY his personal or one particular Telefunken U47. He was known for that!

However, I don't really see that going along with what you're trying to describe. When I think of "old square mics", I usually think more of the old crystal mics.

But most likely if you've seen them on old TV talkshows, you're probably talking about the RCA-44 ribbon mic; which now that I think about it more, Sinatra did probably use before his U47. A VERY CLOSE re-make is the AEA R44C/R44CX. http://www.wesdooley.com I WANT ONE TOO!!! But I can't afford one either. Lets see, if I don't buy ANY new gear for 3 months...
