How to successfully perform vibrato?
I was wondering what are the different types of vibrato, and which way is the "proper way." Also what does it usually sound like? I'm always confused with vibrato, tremelo, and having a fake one sorta like an induced falsetto vibrato or having a fully proper one. Anyone have audio samples or can distinguish between the types, and tell me a little bit more on vibrato? Thanks.

you dont "manufacture" vibrato..
Vibrato is a slight variation of pitch resulting from the free movement of the vocal cords". This free oscillation of the vocal cords results from (1) an open pharynx or what many call the "open throat" along with (2) healthy "closure of the cords" Anyone trying to produce vibrato with their voices physically is wrong. It comes as a result of good, open, relaxed throat and adequate breath support.

i guess.
I used to practice with half steps...so say C and C# and go between them first really slow, maybe 2 seconds per tone..and slowly speed up, until it becomes like vibrato. sure its not technically the same thing but it teaches you control nonetheless. you would want to jump around your full range doing this. it is the same process for singing or guitar playing or whatever. the best blues guitar players use vibrato in tempo with the song, and have control over the pitch of the vibrato. this is how you learn it. if you are noticing faults in your singing and want to get better a few lessons might help you learn some exercises to improve on your own. |
