Built-In Fx vs. other Free Fx

I may be getting Audition at some point...but probably not.

But whilst daydreaming about it, I was wondering how the built-in fx are, such as the compressor, eq, and reverb, and how they might compare to other (free) plugins like the Classic Series.

I am such a noob to this computer recording crap it's pathetic - I was just wondering how the sound quality (primarily), usability, etc., compare.

Use them both. certain effects are better for certain songs. I have a boatload of plug-ins including everything from Ntrack plug-ins up to the Waves Native bundle, and I use whatever sounds best. I generally go for the waves ones first but sometimes it is somethign as crappy as an old Blueline plug in that gets me my sound.
There is noharm in having too many effects esp. when they are free.
