Yahama MG10/2 help
Hi everyone, I'm a home recording newbie and I need some help.
My setup is a Shura Beta 58A mic > Yamaha MG10/2 mixer > SB Audigy 2 Value soundcard. I'm trying to record audio through the mic but I'm not getting any signal/sound. I think at the minimum the level meter on the mixer should go up but it's not even doing that. I don't think it's a problem with the equipment, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. =( |

I thought I had it figured out, but now I don't think I did it right.
What I did was run an RCA cable (red and white ends that run into a 1/8" stereo plug) from the REC OUT into the MIC IN on my soundcard, and I got my computer to pick up the audio when I talk into the microphone (the dBs were VERY low, much lower than my old crappy computer mic). I know that's not how you're supposed to do it though. I think the RCA is supposed to go from the REC OUT into the LINE IN, but I don't get any sound when I do that. Even when I use Audacity, and set it to recognize LINE IN, it doesn't pick up any sound from the mixer. Here's a picture of the Mixer and the sound card: Yamaha MG10/2 Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value I just did a fresh install of the soundcard, and all the hardware is like new, so I think it has to be the way the mixer is connected or the settings on my computer that's the problem. Any other MG10/2 owners out there who can help? ![]() |

Your problem is most likley in the windows audio control panel. Something is set to 'mute" or something. I assume your getting level activity when you speak in to the mic on the Mixer but nothing in windows.

Nooo. Bad Idea. The signal coming out of your mixer is a line level source. The signal from your mic is amplified by the preamps in your mixer up to a line level. Plugging into the mic in on your sound card would run it though another preamp (a shitty one). This is a bad idea. Check the windows sound mixer and the input devices in your software. Something must be muted or not routed properly. |

I ended up figuring it out.
The problem was I had the red ST knob on the bottom right of the mixer turned all the way down. Once I turned it up, the level meter went up and the vocals I was recording through the microphone showed up in Audacity. I thought that knob was only for the ST OUTs, but it controls the REC OUTs as well, which makes sense now since they're pretty much related. In summary for anyone with a similar problem, I ran RCAs from the REC OUTs of the mixer into the LINE IN of the sound card. In Audacity, I set the source on the top right to "Analog Mix", and it records everything great. |
