Korg Kontroller 49

hi.. been researching some midi controllers (new to midi)... this korg kontroller http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/702417/ looks great and looks like its what I need... but in reading about and viewing a demo from korg's site it I found that it is made to work well with reason software... as in you can control basic functions in reason through the korg kontroller.... and I was wondering if there are any midi controllers that were made to work well with cakewalk's sonar... anyone know?

is anyone familiar with the kontroller? does anyone know if you can still assign knobs/faders if you aren't connecting via the usb? can you just do it if you connect through the midi cables?

I used one extensivly and I didn't like it at all. the pads are really squishy, the programmer is complex and overall its just not a well laid out controller. Having only 8 faders and dials is kind of a joke. I would check CME or Novation controllers.

There really is no controller made just for one thing since there are so many different controls and no controller can have everything. You only really need to program controls that you acutally use so having presets is only marginally useful

These novations look really great... but it doesn't appear to have a lot of support here in the US... http://www.novationmusic.com/whereto...4&iRegionID=47 this seems to the only dealer in the US? although musicians friend seems to carry them http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...=100001+201507

I'm still trying to understand all this stuff... I have a few soft synths (triangle2, crystal, cmfuzz) and I've been using them through my Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio 4... and just making adjustments with my mouse... and writing midi notes out using my mouse... with one of these keyboards I will be able to play my music in real time and also control ANY of my soft syths or VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS by assigning ANY of the controls to ANY of the assignable buttons on the REMOTE OR X-STATION??? Please let me know if that is right... Thanks for your help in advance

The xstation has an audio interface built into it so if you are also look for one of those, that may be a good choice. I use the little remote 25 (not much of a keys players) and yes, a controller will allow you to assign knobs to controls

Actually thats a good question. I've been looking at the Korg Kontrol. CME UF8? and the Novation, etc etc.
Novation seems to have flaky drivers(at least for a MAC), but has good keyboard spongy feel. CME is also good in that regard.
But the big question are most controllers capable of MIDI assignments and controls (CC) with the MIDI connection (less the USB connection)??
I hear about various mfg's that the furnished software controls assingments so forth. Most do not seem to be able to do this via the MIDI connection?

as far as programming off line, my novation does it an it is fairly straight forward. Using one dial is kinda of a pain, but pretty usable. The software makes it alot easier though. It is pretty much select the control, select the parameters and your done

The novation does not have a realtime programmer so you are simply doing a midi dump and that can be done via midi or USB (standard SYSEX file)

I really am looking for more of just a midi controller for soft synths that I'm starting to learn to use... but after watching the video on rolands site it seems like the juno has some great sounding patches on it... Any Feed back on these?

Trade it in. The Juno D is far from a impressive synth and you will get way more milage fromt the novation
