How much will mixer affect separate preamp?

How much will my mixer affect a separate preamp? If I were to use a really nice preamp and then patch it into my mixer (Alesis Studio 24) to get it to my ADAT how badly would my mixer affect the sound quality - say if I leave the eq flat on the mixer?

It is best not to run it into the mic input, you would probably be ok running it into the line input, though. If you could bypass the mixer altogether it would be the best, but I think that it only makes a small difference, as long as you aren't running through two preamp sections.

If it's quiet and doesnt add much noise you should be okay.

There is a better way to find out: test it. Try the pre alone then through the mixer. No better way to get the answer.

I can tell a difference when I run a high quality pre through a mixer. It gets a little veiled. I'd always prefer to go direct from the pre to the converters unless I had to mix channels together going in.
