Are Studio Speakers Neccessary?

Hi I am trying to record my own little hip hop demo, and was wondering if studio speakers are really needed. I just bought some headphone. Please leave me some good followups. Thanks!

you need both really. headphone mixing tends to leave your bass boomy and your higher parts to hot from my experience.

good monitors are a sound purchase.

pardon the pun.

To make really basic listen-able recordings I get by with using headphones for tracking and computer speakers to do some basic mixing.

I know, I know your all spitting in disgust but it works for me!

Sorry - but I'm guessing that it's NOT really working for you... you really can't know that it's not, because if all you have a computer speakers, you simply can't hear the problems!

I know theres problems I can't hear but, as I say, if I put it on a hi-fi it's listenable and I don't really mind the small problems.
