Racking mic pres

Who would you reccomend to rack up some telefunken mic pres and how much would it cost to rack a pair of them?

depends on what mic pres you are talking about and if you need variable gain, phantom power, power supply, etc...what pres (Model?) are you looking to rack up? what "features" do you want?

Well its one place...

There is a place called Dave Marquette Audio that will rack them appropriately and can also add a transformer to make them useful as wonderful DI boxes. To rack a pair its about a grand. He cautions while he is happy to rack a pair that someone already has, you should make sure, and before you have to pay for them if you do go that route, that they work well with phantom power. He has found that the transformers in some of them do not and they become very noisy. I asked him if this was a period thing and he said no. Go to his website for more info. I dug talking with and I am probably going to use him to rack this pair or to get an already racked pair from him...

I thought it a bit funny & have spoken to a guy from germany today who says that this is from caps losing their capacitance which he also says rarely happens since they were overspec'd. What do you think and please, more than weird this time.

no, I just thought it wierd that you asked for places to rack your pre's and then answered you own question. anyway, it's a fact that caps lose their capacitence over time, doenst matter if they were over specd or not..it also depends on what pre's you have to. If they are tube pres then the caps will wear out more quickly due to heat of the tubes, but they all wear out over time. David does nice work, but I'm not sure about his 'transformer' comment... before you send your pre's to him though, ask him what kind of trasnformer he'll b using for the DI section. Ask him if he'll check over the pre and make sure it's working properly. Do you need a power supply for your pre's? Just curious, which ones did you get? (you too shilat)

...I suppose it looks weird. You are funny. I did a little research outside of this bbs and was directed to him. I was impressed with what he had to say and what I saw so I thought I would share. I absolutely appreciate you poppin your head in here. Well the units are V-72's and they have come from germany. This fellow says they have been in use and been maintained. I actually dont have them yet.

Dave's comment about some of the pres bahaving weirdly with phantom power, he led me to believe, was something that you cannot do anything about. Just that some of them do it and some dont. Does this make sense to you?

On another note Dave uses Jensen Transformers for the DI section. Why would transformered DI inputs be better? His site is vague about this. And yes they do not come with a step-up transformer.

I would do with david, he does real nice work. and step-up transformers are real cheap, so that should not be a huge cost.

What kind of pres do you use and have you ever used the V-72? Also, which Neve pres have you used and do you favor? I am leaning to the 1081 right now but the 1073 or 33114 might be an option too. Thanks for the replys...
