PG57 - Vocals
Ok. I've moved this thread over from "Newbies" section.
I think I made a mistake when I bought the PG57 for vocals. When I received the microphone the literature said the PG58 was for vocals and the PG57 was for instruments. Since I'm just starting out recording my voice against pre-recorded background music will the PG57 do or should I sell it and get something else? Thannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnks.

If you notice plosive "pops" on your vocal tracks recorded with the PG57, try angling the mic towards your mouth, not directly at your mouth, so that the main pops and puffs of air go past the mic, not into it. Use whatever distance between your mouth and the mic that you feel is giving you the best sound. You can use this technique with any mic. Or, you could make a pop screen with a coat hanger and nylon stocking, or an embroidery hoop and nylon stocking, or buy one, and clamp it on the mic boom between the mic and the vocalist.

Bear in mind that although Shure is a fine manufacturer the PG series is the bottom of their line. You most likely will be wanting something better as you improve your skill. |

Ok. Thanks for the help.
I will do the coat hanger/nylon for the pop filter and play with the mic angle.
