Home Studio is a cut down version of Sonar, so there is little point in having a demo of it.

Just d/l Sonar 4 and enjoy!

Im familiar with sonar, i was just looking into it for a friend.

I wanted to see what the differences were, visually and in the software itself.

Are they set up just the same?

From screen shots, the console view looks the same, but the actually tracking view looks alot different.

Aside from Plug-ins, and the differences in the midi architecture, what are some of the biggest differences?

The biggest difference is a limitation on tracks - 64 I believe. Apart from that, you are right, the track view has a different "look" to it, but essentially, it does the same job - just a bit more picturesque

Audio engine is the same. And if someone wanted to upgrade later, CAkewalk offer a great upgrade pricing structure.

I find this hilarious Only 64? HAAA!

I have Sonar 3 producer and an AMD 3000, basic store-bought computer. My record is 20 tracks so far, it seems to me that anything beyond that would be really pushing it.

Can anyone ACTUALLY get 65 tracks? Does anyone actually NEED 65 tracks?

I got Cubasis with something I bought, I think it does 8 tracks of audio and 16 midi. Certainly THAT is a Lite version, but 64 tracks??? Thats pretty darn good for a watered-down version!

Actually, its quite easy to get up to that count I am currently producing a piece of music for a short promo film and have 58 tracks so far But its not "normal"; proper music (like the sort you do ) doesn't usually need anything like that number of tracks.

I am more interested to see if your computer could actually handle 65 tracks I will have to eventually test how many I can actually get.

I am doing something now with a lot of midi tracks (over 32), but I didnt give each one a dedicated audio track, I submixed to 12 tracks to save power and my sanity for mixing this giant mess together. I added another 8 audio tracks and its starting to get funky on me, begging me to not add more tracks.

I have 4 instances of Stylus rmx, three of Atmosphere, and two of Konakt plus three reverbs - and i am at approx 70% - 80% CPU loading.

One more of any of my synths or reverbs and it overloads

So basically, Homestudio (the new one) is Sonar with fewer plug-ins and fewer tracks? (64 is fine... )

Is there a significant difference between XL and just plain-old Home Studio? Let's say I was more adventurous than your garden-variety inexperienced hobbyist...
