I'm new...what do you think?

Hi...sorry for making this so long,

I'm part of a 5 piece jazz/jam band (Keyboard, Uprightbass, Drums, Trumpet, Trombone). We have been playing for about 2 years, and are interested in getting into recording.
What sort of equipment do you think we would need? Right now I have a Peavy Amp with a midi line out...and 3 line ins...a Peavy omni-directional dynamic cariod mic...and a bass mic hook-up. I'd like to mic my horn players though.
I'm looking at Berhinger C-2's for $50. I've heard a lot of mixed stories on these and other Behringer products.
I'd like to record digitally. I am looking at a Fostex MR-8 for $250. This is the price range that I am looking for. Do you think that this would suffice? Any ideas on how to make it better...

Well...I have no real idea as to what sound I'm going to get from these mics...and what kind of recording from this recorder...so I'm asking if there are any other products at this price range that would be better to look at, or I were to need anything else in addition.

I'm really just learning at this point,
