Cubase SX2 soundcard setup
I've always used Cubase SX2 with a Tascam US428 without any problems. However, I just upgraded to an M-Audio Delta 1010 soundcard (with the rack mount) and want to be able to still use the US428 as a controler (just for editing with jog wheel and triggering recording etc). How do I do this and still keep the Delta 1010 as the soundcard? It's not covered in the manual and I couldn't get any response in the Tascam board on this site. Thanks.

You cannot use two soundcards in cubase so I would spdif the tascam into the Delta so you can still get a stereo input

So you mean run the Tascam into the Delta? I was thinking of having the Tascam fed in my the USB connection, then somehow disable the audio drivers but just leaving the driver for the controler... Impossible? If I went in via the spdif into the Delta co I have to record into the Tascam or can I use one of the direct plugs in the Delta rack. This is all for guitar and bass only, no crazy setups.

I used 3 soundcards with Nuendo 2. It should be the same. You have to set one card as the clock master and make sure the other cards know that. After that, you just pick the i/o you want to use.

In the Audio card setup choose the ASIO driver for the Delta and that should be it if the Tascam was already set up as the control surface. The midi driver and the audio driver should be separate

I have a Terratec ews88mt which has 8 ins and outs. In that menu you mentioned, I only see ins 1 and 2 and the outs listed are my factory soundcard. How do I reconfigure that?

By default Cubase only takes the first 2 available ins and outs. To add more click "Add Bus" (Or right click anywhere in the dialog), select the type of buss you want it to be (Stereo, Mono (Good for mono sends to external devices), Surround, etc.), then Left-Click on the name of the ASIO device, in the ASIO Device Port column to select from available ports. To remove a bus simply select it, right-click on it and chose remove bus.

Additionally in the VST Connections window, you can double click on a busses name and change it (By default it should be called stero out). You could call inputs 1+2 something like "Keyboards", and Outputs 1+2 "MASTER" and Output 3 (Mono) Something like "Ext. Send 1" (Ext.=External), and set up corresponding "Ext. Returns" on Inputs 3+4, and all these names would appear as you name them in your mixer window. Nifty huh.
