Samson Airline AF1?

I am thinking of purchasing one of these. Are there any negatives I should know about, Thanks, Steve.

I never used that one, but just looking at it makes me wonder if $300 wouldn't be better spent on a more conventional product with a bigger transmitter and non-stompbox receiver. Not saying that bigger is better, but usually smaller is more expensive. The same money may buy a better rig that is bigger and clunkier.

I bought a Shure a year ago and it's a hoot to fool around with. The only bummer was that I (used to) use the volume knob a bit during performances to clean up the guitar sound a little for certain songs. When you turn down the volume on the guitar, the wireless boosts the signal and cancels out what I was trying to do. I also had to open up the xmitter and tighten up the nut on the cable connector and it was nice having a serviceable unit.

I suppose this isn't considered helping you out. Just imparting my mis-information based opinion, I guess.

Thank you for your feedback. I really want something I can just plug and play. I really don't want to be messing with transmitter or receiver short of putting on the mute or off.

sajs,

I have to tell ya... the Samson Airline AF1 is Fantastic! I've had it for a couple years and have nothing negative to say. There is no loss of sound. I actually walk around my Quad level house as I play my stack in the basement. You will appreciate the stomp pedal because, if you use other pedals like a Wah Wah or Tubescreamer, it will save you running a cord to your amp. The battery lasts a long time, and I can change my battery without taking off my guitar. It takes one AAA. I have other wireless units for my other guitars and they don't compare. The Samson Airline AF1 has been one of my best purchases and I'm thinking of getting the bass version for my bass rig. Wireless is the way to go!

Good luck & Rock on, Dude!

I'll add another positive with one caveat. I personally have never had a problem with it. I've used it with my Strat, an ESP Les Paul clone loaded with Duncan's JB/59 set, and my Epi Les Paul loaded with Burstbuckers and it works fine with all of them. One of my friends tried to use it with his Epi Les Paul loaded with PRS pickups (not sure which ones) and the signal was completely distorted. We didn't have time to test out all the parts of the signal chain, so it may have been something else...we just don't know.

I don't own one, but I've heard nothing but great things about them. One of my buddies (that moved away) was telling me about his (although his was for the bass) and he had nothing but good things to say about it.

I've got an old nady wireless unit, collecting dust.... maybee I'll ebay it..... (thanks for making me think about that )

Thank you. I probably will get the one for the Strat since that will also work in other guitars. It might stick out a bit, but you can't use an angled one in a Strat.

<Amber>: The item can run on a 9 volt battery
<Amber>: It uses a power adapter also but we don't have 220 voltage
<Monsterpop>: im sorry,,,,i meant the frequency

<Amber>: Ok, one moment

<Amber>: Britain has a whole different frequency setup. I'm really not sure if it would work. You would need to contact Samson directly.

I had one, which I purchased new, for a couple of years. I used it with my Fender bass.

It worked well. You do need to dial in the right amount of gain, or you'll cause input overload with distortion.

After about 3 months, it just quit altogether. I sent it in for warranty-covered repair, and it came back functional. But it did take a LONG time to get it back.

And keep in mind that you do lose some frequency and dynamic range with just about any wireless device.

eBayed it because it was really a luxury I didn't need...

Well yeah, their response makes perfect sense. You were expecting some random employee of AmericanMusicalSuppy.com to know the permitted consumer RF frequencies specified by the British government and whether that encompasses the operating frequency of a product that AmericanMusicalSupply.com does not manufacture? Jeez...give them a break!

I buy everything from American Musical Supply. Great prices and service. I don't think any of the music distributors would know what frequencies would work in Britain.
