Tascam 22-2 issue

Hi. I recently purchased a tascam 22-2. When I go to play the tape it spins the reel in the wrong direction. The strange part is, that it olny does this when the tape is on the deck. If I run it with out tape it goes in the right direction. any ideas? Thanks
