channel strip question ¿?

hello everyone!
im from Uruguay (the little country) and im in the plan od openning a small studio, since there are very little here.

we will be specified in recording vocals for publicity and for music, but just vocals, so we plan to have only 2 channel of GOOD quality gear.

since there is little market here, we cannot aford to try anything before ordering, and no one here has what we have in mind

this is what we though_:

-Presonus - Eureka
-Focusrite - Voice master Pro
-DBX - 386


the 1st 2 can be ordered with a A/D coverter, and the DBX already has it.
the dbx has no proces, but has an effect loop, so well put there a comp and a eq.

anyone has any experience with this items? what are the PROs and CONs of these?

any help is very aprreciated!

Are you doing voiceover work? If so, you might consider the Symetrix 528E. It's a standard in the broadcast industry.

Yup, what he said. I've used the Focusrite and the presonus and they were nice for awhile but as my ears heard more, they sounded like less. The dbx is not highly thought of however it does amplify a signal

The Eureka is ok, I own it and it still gets used on every session but not on every source like I first did with it. It's not bad for the price and the eq/compression are ok, nothing to really get excited about. It's a nice unit for the price.

I've used both the Voicemaster and the Symetrix. The Symetrix is a bit easier to set up. Both sound pretty good for the money, though I lean toward the Voicemaster.

Maybe I have misunderstood your question, but if you are after two channels of tracking gear then only the DBX unit you have listed will enable you to record two channels simultaneously (unless you buy two of the other units)

But, as you already know, the DBX 386 is just a pre amp so you will then need to purchase separate stereo compressor and EQ units to add as inserts if you are wanting this type of control prior to the audio getting recorded to HD.

For two channels of simultaneous recording in the one unit, with compression and eq included, may I suggest checking out the following channel strips:

Focusrite Twin Trak Pro
JoeMeek TwinQ (current edition, not the older one)
Toft ATC-2

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

I think this is gonna be higher quality than the focusrite or presonus units...and to echo other people - don't even think about the 386. I was looking at one, and then I heard it and said no - it's like it could be good, but it isn't...like a old camaro that's awesome from far away and then you get close and see it's full of rust holes and dents...and the engine's been swaped out for a crappy 6 cylinder...
