M-Audio Tampa
Hello
I ordered an M-Audio tampa from a local store and was assured I would have 2 week ago and still no tampa. I kept getting we called are rep and he hasn't returned are calls. So I decieded to make my own call to M-Audio and found out that the unit was on back order and won't be available until mid December. So my question is it worth the wait or is $400 better spent on another pre-amp that is available with the same quaility thanks Emmanuel |

Should I just go with a Focusrite TrakMaster Pro Channel Strip instead of waiting for the Tampa

You can get the Tampa for $328. Still the best value in a mid-level channel strip, IMO. http://www.floridamusicco.com/prodde...artner=froogle

You're not the only one who's been waiting for M Audio stuff to show...And I've been waiting even longer for my focusrite order to come! It's been almost 6 weeks on the latter and almost 4 on the former for me...

been using the tampa for about 12 months now and there's nothing in that price bracket that can touch it. Be patient

Hello
So all you think it is worth the wait. Well then maybe I will wait. The store I ordered the unit at has always been really good to me and I hate to ask for my money back when it is out of thier control. But they were assured by the rep that the unit was in stock an I should have it in a week. That was three weeks ago. And m-audio has not returned there phone calls. I have heard really good things about this unit and I hate settle for less. What would you all recommend for $500.00 if this deal falls through. Thanks Emmanuel |

$500 no, it's a discontinued unit now ...out of production. I got mine over a year ago for £199 which is about $430 when M-Audio was blowing out the range, they were about £600 nes as I remember...well over $1300. It's a clasic pre and the fact it was only in production for a fewq years will make it a collector in the future. The Tampa is a beast in a world of its own and any owner who's put it through its paces will tell you that.
If you can grab one for the original price you mentioned grab it, actualy at $500 you couldn't buy the compressor alone. If only M-Audio had done a dual channel Tampa! |

Is it that good?
I actually have a Tampa as well got it off ebay for 250 dollars....Almost blew it up with my converter (I live in Europe), whole thing started to smoke...Anyway the compressor is a tranparent one (ain't it?), but since I don't use it much I almost wish I had got a DMP3 instead...kinda...maybe not...hm

Hello
Thanks for all the info. What I was asking was if I wanted to spend $500.00 is there something anyone would recommend. Or is there something for around $200 that I could use on electric drums, guitar and bass until my tampa comes in. Again thanks Emmanuel |

I have two Tampas and really like them...the pre's are different than the DMP3 (which I had and sold), they are less hyped and just sound nicer when you stack up tracks. Not night and day different by any means, but different. It also just feels better on vocals, hard to describe, but it has a better feel than the DMP3 when singing.
I haven't owned anything else as nice as the Tampa for a pre, so I don't really know how it compares to others in the price range. But the RNP comes up all the time around here as another option in this price range. Just a pre, it's not a channel strip, so you'll have to decide how important the compressor and converters are to you.

Alright sounds like I will have to wait and hope for the price that it is worth the wait. They are not discontinued according to m-audio they should ship mid december so maybe I can get ahold of another one but first I want to give a test run.
Thanks to all Emmanuel |

Sorry...a little late here but I've got 2 Tampa's as well and am thoroughly impressed with em. Nice clean pres and the comp is very good...imho....
A stereo Tampa would be cool but this is a fine unit nevertheless... I'd say it's worth the wait. Or check em out on ebay......... ![]() |

I bought one in February, used it on a couple records and now I'd like to sell it. Nothing against the unit at all - I really like it. I'm just moving on to something else that suits my purposes a bit better.
I'm in Toronto, Canada. Any offers? The one light has burnt out (it happend on day 1), but everything works fine. |
