I need a computer for cheap

Im poor and finally starting to put my studio together. Im lookin to spend about 300-350 on a very basic computer. Just a computer no monitor. If anyone has a decent one that they're willing to get rid of for cheap, or could show me where to buy one for cheap it would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has one with a delta 1010lt already in it i'll give them $550 or so for it.

If you want cheap and new. Dell has some $299 entry level PCs. Id go with that with the asurance of one year warrenty as opposed to a used as is.

Yeah, but the $299 ones are going to be Celerons. Would you try putting a 1010 in a Celeron?

Thank you for that. Celerons are THE bottom of the line.

My recommendation is to build your own. If you have the slightest bit of technical knowledge, it's very easy & will save you hundreds of dollars.

I recently priced a system that is WAY more powerful than I really need for $580.

yea, i was going to build my own, and my brothers real good at that stuff, but i was still thinking it would just be easier to get a whole computer. I might go out and check out what some places have around here tomarrow, and if i dont find anything, i'll probably end up peicing one together or ordering a barebones kit from newegg or tigerdirect.

Well he did say cheap. What would you expect for cheap. You cant build one any better than the celeron for less than $300. I mean your talking about a super cheap motherboard cheap power supply cheap case cheap memory second hand hard drives. a desent processor is half of that. all that cheap no name brand stuff will cause more problems than you want and can frustrate you. so really , cheap and delta 1010 dont go together. $580 is beyond his price range considering your not including the audio interface. but if your willing to wait just wait and built one. but dont built it cheap. or you can get an audio interface with less input that way a lower end PC can handle the load.

Depending on what you already have component wise, 300 bucks may go a long way toward a mainboard/cpu/memory combo

i understand that. I said that price would build a system suitable for myself - just using an example.

You DO NOT save money by building your own pc, compared to say a Dell or similar. If you can spend less money building your own, I'll bet you are using substandard components, like crappy ECS or PC Chips motherboards, or crappy Foxconn power supply, or junk like that. While Dell isn't the top of the line, their quality is still better than those super-cheap budget components. Go read the customer reviews on sites like Newegg. Even the name-brand manufacturers like Asus and MSI are putting out some low-quality-controlled crap these days :-((

If you are on a super-tight budget, something like a low-end Dell with Celeron is still better. Hell, I was recording on a Pentium 200 several years ago. Even a 2.4GHz Celeron is going to beat the crap of older systems like that!! Even with a Delta 1010!!

This is 100% true

I still use a p4 1.8 gig with no problems at all. I'm sure they can be found reletively cheap.

Tigerdirect.com has many cheap desktop PCs, the cheapest being refurbished, but with factory warranties.

Just went out to circuit city today and got a 1.8Ghz sempron compaq presario for $450. It was supposed to come with 512mb Ram, but i only got 256. I bought a 512 stick off my brother and now for some reason it says its got like, 702mb or somethin (doesnt quite add up.) Next paycheck will be some monitors probably, then a delta 44, then a new mixer, and then finally some new mics. So for $450 i got 1.8 Ghz, 702mb ram, and 100 Gig HD.

Dude, if they didn't give you what you were supposed to get, go back and bitch about it. You paid for it, you should get it. Unless I don't completely understand the situation.

I read some reviews on sempron and the benchmark scores were higher than celeron's at the comparable price. You should get that memory checked out. It many not have been properly seated and when you installed the new modual you moved it and caused it to register. you may want to check that its all the way down
