If You Buy This R8 You Are…

… An optimist

Seller says, “There are no problems that I am aware of although I didn't use the recording features.” But he, “Played another tape recorded on a Tascam 388 machine that sounded fine on most of the channels.”

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7369233925

This is bad news guys, because either he is trying to mislead or his R8 is running at 7-½ ips, or both.

Apparently he bought this to record with, but decided the machine was not going to work out for him… before even trying to record with it.

What does the phrase “Most of the channels” mean exactly?

And this? “I will add photos in a few days. I may edit the above listing for greater clarity tomorrow, I'm just too tired.”

Any bets as to which forum the new owner will be on in the next two weeks, this one or the Fostex forum?

“Uh yeah, help! Eh… bought an R8 on ebay and when I push FFW or RW it makes a sound like a freight train’s wheels squeaking against the tracks. The level LEDS on channels 3 and 7 are pegged into the red all the time in record and playback. I take this as a good sign that they are really “hot” and should give me really good compression. But I would like to record something other than the buzzing sound that is already on those tracks. Is there a copy protect switch for those tracks on the tape? Also, all I can get is what sounds like AM talk radio on playback of the other tracks. Is this normal?”
