manfrombumfuk is on a distinguished road
Will I need something to boost the signal from the mic or can I go straight into the input on my computer?

You really need to use a pre-amp into the line in on you soundcard. You can get tube mic pre amps for under $150. The Presonus Blue Tube is talked about alot here. as is the ART TubeMP. I have the ART TubePac, which has tube compression built in and I have run it straight into a PC soundcard with good results.
If you have it, a mixer will also get the job done. Just use the direct outs from the input.
Have fun!

DON'T use soundcard mike input

Use a mixer or dedicated mike pre as suggested with the "max headroom" principal of getting the signal as hot as possible prior to clipping. On the other hand, the digital mixer on your computer software should be set approx. -3 dB to avoid ANY digital overs.
