Calling all mastering engineers...

Hello.

My name is Matthew Hickin and I'm a final year Creative Music & Sound Technology student from Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK.

As part of my final project I intend to create some form of learning tool under the title, 'The Beginners Guide to Audio Mastering'. This tool will not aim to turn the user into a mastering engineer overnight, but will aim to introduce the basic theory and techniques behind mastering to the user.

As part of this learning tool I would like to include a section based around interviews with professional mastering engineers so that the users will be able to get an idea of what it is like working in this industry, what sort of equipment is used for the task in the real world and how to get started on a mastering career path.

Please also indicate whether at a later stage in the tools development you would like to see a prototype and be willing to offer feedback on this.

I never really knew there was such a thing as a "career path" for mastering.

Why don't you just interview a bunch of hookers and try and get the inside scoop on a career in the adult entertainment industry? Would make for much more interesting reading.

From what I understand, there isn't much of a difference between mastering and adult entertainment.

Although I agree that researching the career of hookers would be an interesting subject to research for my final project, I'm pretty certain it wouldnt meet the criteria for my course. Thanks though.

I'm quite sure Jason was joking around there... I've worked with him on several projects and he takes the mastering process more seriously than most engineers I know. Well-prepped, always lots of headroom, sharp dresser, firm handshake - Class act all the way.

Hey by the way Matthew, The Who's "Live at Leeds" is one of my favorite all time albums. Any chance you will be interviewing Jon Astley?
