Question hooking up DMP3 preamp to Delta 1010lt
I bought a DMP3 and am trying to hook everything up. My question is, can I leave the inputs 1 and 2 using the preamps on the card itself and have those available for 2 more mics? In the meantime, can I primarily use the inputs 3 and 4 going into my DMP3? Are the inputs (RCA jacks 3 and 4) set at line level already?

Looking at my Behringer 1002 eurorack mixer, I was thinking I could just use all the pres I have available to me now (total of 6- 2 dmp3, 2 1010lt, and 2 1002) and use the 2 preamps available on the mixer as well. So, I would connect a cable from the main outs on the mixer to inputs 5 and 6 (Since 1-4 would be in use) on my soundcard? But then how could I use the mixer for monitoring or can I not do both?

Yes, you can use the DMP3 on inputs 3 and 4 and still have hte XLRs for dynamic mics (no phantom power, of course). That's basically the way I do it. I have my dmp3 on 3 and 4 (or 7 and 8) and hook my mixer up to the rest. You will be able to send outs 1 and 2 back into the mixer's Tape Return jacks, ( I think your mixer has them), and then use the monitor outs of the mixer, depending on your board, I believe. You will be able to monitor all inputs because the Delta1010lt has the "monitor mixer." It monitors everythign that's being input into the card, regardless of what preamp was used and sends it out 1 and 2, L and R respectively. I hope that answers your questions |

Ok thanks, that answers all my questions. I'm still a little unclear about using the preamps on my mixer though. On my mixer I have :Phones, Main out, Ctrl Room Out, Tape in and Tape Out. In order to use the mixer's 2 preamps and phantom power, which of these will need to go to my 1010's inputs? Once I connect them they will not able to be seperated into 2 seperate tracks, since there is not an output for for each track on the mixer, correct? After I connect the mixer to the inputs on my 1010, I will run outputs 1 and 2 from the 1010 back to the "tape in jacks" to be able to monitor the mix through my headphone jack, right?
Thanks for the help, I think I am getting it now. |

Ok, I hooked up the tape outs going into my 1010's inputs 5 and 6 and I am getting signal with that. And I can hear the mic through the phone outs on the mixer. Now, when I hooked up to RCA (L and R) to the tape in's I could only hear through the right channel on my headphones and the sound was quite low compared to when I had the outputs 1 and 2 on the 1010 going straight into input 1 in the mixer.

Ah, I just looked at the 1002 again and I see that it doesn't have Inserts/Direct Outs. One thing you can do to separate the channels is pan. Channel one pan left and channel two pan right. This way, when it's sent out the stereo buss, the channels will be separate going into the inputs of the delta. Quote:
