critique my recording?
Yeah, I posted this in guitar too. I want to hear from both you guys and the guitar guys on how this sounds...
I recorded this a little while ago, not sure what mics I used, probably my CAD mics though. I recorded the drums first (CAD mics on origional Ludwig Vista Lites), then rythm guitar, then lead guitar. I believe I used my mesa boogie triple rectifier for recording, although it could be my digitech rp2000 amp modeling pedal. Tell me what you think: messingaround.mp3 |

Yeah, that's definately your Mesa. Sounds pretty good. The drums.......not so good. Sound way too tinsley for my taste. The bass drum doesn't sound horrible, but the rest of it, well..........does. Sorry, just being honest. Just my opinion.

Yea, drums sound pretty bad but the guitars are ok. maybe a little to bright. but the drums....lol. But everyone has to start out somewhere. play around with your mic placement on your drums and cut some of those highs down on the overall mix and just keep workin at it until you get the sound you like.

It seems like the drums are lacking volume, and just overall presence. For that kind of music, you would want the snare to be very front. Also, like they said before, the guitars do seem very bright, but if that's what you like, go for it. Otherwise, they sound good. Just work on your drums. Make sure the OH's are closer to the drums.

Yeah the drums were before I started using the peavey kit (which is wood, not acrylic like my vista lites) and before I knew where I wanted my mics placed at... When I get done with my band's recordings I promise they will be 100 times better than that....
