temporary auralex installation

I want to treat my room with some Auralex, but I can't glue it on permanently. Any suggestions on how I can do this inexpensively and without ruining the foam or walls?

Glue or attach it to some wood panels and hang or stand those around the room.

in my expirience, "T" pins, or "flower" pins work better than brads. they are simply a needle shaped like a "T".

There is auralex spray adhesive called Foamtak that may be used as a temporaryadhesiveI have used it, and it works great.

Then there are these:

awesome, thanks for all the suggestions. seems like a temporary solution is easier than I thought.

fraserhutch:

does the foamtak leave a residue on the wall?

Here's how I did it (not sure whether it was Auralex or some other acoustic foam off hand, but the same principle applies):

1 roll of 2" self-stick velcro
3 pair of scissors (they get sticky, and you don't want to have to clean them while you're working)
1 sheet of paneling cut to size
2 small picture wire hooks (or small cup hooks)

Process:

1. Cut the paneling to be the correct size to hold the acoustic panels, leaving about a half inch exposed at the top for mounting.
2. Cut several inch-wide strips of velcro. Since the velcro is 2" wide, this will give you a 1"x2" strip.
3. Place six pieces of velcro on each panel: one across each corner (about a half inch in from each edge) and two vertically in the center, about a half inch from either edge.
4. Place the opposite part of the velcro on the panel in appropriate positions.
5. Allow a few minutes for the velcro glue to solidify.
6. Tack the two picture wire hooks onto the wall using the included tacks. (This stuff is light, so you don't need to hit a stud; sheetrock can support the weight easily.)
7. Drill two holes about a quarter inch from the top edge of the board. These should line up with the two hooks sticking out of the wall.
8. Hook the paneling onto the hooks.
9. Velcro the acoustic panels to the wood.

As a bonus, if you ever move to a more permanent location, you can reuse the same acoustic panels by simply pulling the velcro apart.

It didn't for me.
